Shun Ishihara

Professor,

Meiji Gakuin University

 

Shun Ishihara was born in Kyoto in 1974 and is currently a Professor of Sociology at Meiji Gakuin University. He got received a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Kyoto University. He was a Research Associate and an Assistant Professor at Chiba University (2005-09), an Associate Professor at Meiji Gakuin University (2009-17), and a Visiting Researcher at University of California Los Angeles (2015-16).

    He specializes in Historical Sociology and Island Studies. He is the author of The Empire of Japan and the Ogasawara Islands: Socio-historical Studies on the Migrant's Encounters with Sovereign Powers (Heibon-sha, 2007: in Japanese), Historical Sociology of Archipelagos: The Ogasawara Islands and Iwo-jima in the Trans-Pacific World (Kobundo, 2013: in Japanese), Archipelago and University: Beyond Cold War Ideologies in Japan (Editorial Republica, 2017:  in Japanese) and other several books.

He is also the coeditor of Toward a Sociology of Warfare: System, Experience and Media (Bensei Shuppan, 2013: in Japanese).
